Why Autogas
Autogas has two distinct advantages over traditional automotive fuels:
Kinder to the Environment
Autogas is gaining increased support as an environmentally friendly automotive fuel, particularly in towns and cities where heavy duty vehicles and public transport fleets are causing significant pollution problems.Compared to petrol, autogas reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by up to 20%, while noise pollution can be reduced by up to 50%. There are also substantially lower emissions of carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and oxides of nitrogen.
Lower Fuel Costs
Autogas can provide clear, tangible costs savings by offering fuel bill reductions of approximately 50%. Such savings are the result of government support for the fuel (given its environmental credentials), with duty on Autogas being significantly lower than that on petrol and diesel.However, it also offers intangible savings in the form of reduced vehicle maintenance costs. Autogas is a cleaner fuel with fewer contaminants which enhances engine life through decreased fuel residue and wear and tear on components.
Converting to Autogas
You can either choose to purchase a new autogas vehicle from the car dealer directly, or you can opt for an “after market” conversion. Conversion is relatively straight forward, with a popular solution being to fit the autogas tank in the spare wheel well. There is no requirement for a new or replacement engine.Cars converted to Autogas are typically referred to as Dual Fuel vehicles – as the existing petrol/diesel tank is unaltered within converted vehicles, owners can choose at the flick of a switch which fuel they wish to drive on.
